Position Title: Development and Communications Director

Position Profile:
The Development and Communications Director is responsible for overseeing the center’s development, marketing, and communications efforts. This position is responsible for implementing comprehensive strategies to increase fundraising revenue and manage all print and electronic communications for the organization. The Development and Communications Director must possess excellent organizational, communication, and people skills, particularly strong writing skills, and a good sense of self-direction. Through a special emphasis on fundraising, stewardship, grant writing, and special events, the Development and Communications Director will aid in the growth and stability of the Darst Center.

Primary Goals and Objectives:

  • Effectively market the Darst Center’s mission and programs to various constituents through multiple communication methods including print and electronic media
  • Increase the annual fundraising revenue through strategic development efforts including solicitation, grants, and events
  • Provide administrative support to ensure the successful daily operations of the center assisting with book-keeping, facility upkeep, and retreat support

Specific Responsibilities of the Job:

Development 50%

  • Oversee fundraising and solicitation efforts, working with the Executive Director and other members of the Darst Center staff
  • Research and write new and ongoing grant applications and reports
  • Organize and manage database and donor records
  • Conceive, market, plan, and coordinate special events
  • Execute all gift processing, donor acknowledgement, and stewardship efforts
  • Serve as a member of the advancement committee of the board

Communications 25%

  • Maintain the voice of the Darst Center in all print and online communications
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of monthly e-newsletters and an annual print newsletter
  • Manage social media presence on various platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs
  • Update and oversee website
  • Create compelling design and advertising for various programs of the center

Administrative Support 15%

  • Oversee invoicing and billing
  • Manage the Darst Store
  • Provide financial checks and balances on operational and budgetary transactions
  • Participate in the community of the Darst Center staff including but not limited to chore rotation
  • Create and manage a communication and solicitation calendar
  • Supervise long-term volunteers on development and communication activities

Retreats 10%

  • Occasional retreat facilitation and/or support of the center’s Urban Immersion Retreat program

  • You successfully work both independently as well as in collaboration with other staff members.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Passion for the Darst Center mission and ability to articulate its philosophy, values, and practices
  • Experience in an administrative or non-profit office setting, preferably with development and/or communication experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Google Applications, WordPress, Mailchimp, and various social media platforms
  • Strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Creative, strategic and analytical thinking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritizing competing responsibilities
  • Comfortable working in a culture of diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to set and consistently meet deadlines and commitments
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Familiarity with / understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and/or the Lasallian charism and comfort working in a faith-based agency
  • A passion for social justice education and the mission of the Br. David Darst Center

Accountability:
The Development and Communications Director is hired, supervised, evaluated by, and reports to the Executive Director.
