Manhattan College Reflection

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting students from  Manhattan College at the Darst Center. These seven students and one chaperon chose to spend their first week of summer vacation on an Urban Immersion Retreat in Chicago, learning about different issues of social justice. Their time with us was filled with energy, engagement, questions, frustrations, passion, and a strong willingness to learn. We hope that they will take the stories they heard and experiences they had back with them to their own communities, and that they continue to learn about the issues that affect their own city.

One participant reflected on her time in Chicago:

"This experience at the Darst Center was filled with a strong sense of community and understanding. Through the sites I visited I was both frustrated and inspired. This experience has allowed me to "see it differently" on various issues that surround our society today. I immediately felt a sense of welcoming not only here but in the organizations we visited because of the strong connection the Darst Center has with them. I will take what knowledge I have gained here and put it to use in my own community and with others. This experience has changed my mindset for the better to hopefully make more positive changes through both charity and justice."
